I'm aways from having the time to become an apprentice but I still have so many questions and nobody to ask.
Has any body used or thought of using sausage casing to attach meat to a lure? Some casings are pretty tough so the bird would have to tear in and pick out
Yeah, echo is right. A good rule of thumb is "If the bird doesn't eat it in the wild, it shouldn't eat it in falconry." (There are a few exceptions, but we don't need to delve into that haha).
Most lures should have a tie down of some sort on it. I made one with a cinch clip and rope. I've got another with small thread rope (or giant thread, depends on your perspective) and another pinch clip. Seen 'em with all sorts of tie downs. They typically work really well. Just tie it down tight and you should be good to go.
I was thinking since it's just intestines, but completely overlooked that they are salted. My thought wasn't so much for them to eat it but pick the food out.

That is what the tie on your lure is for, no reason to over think it.
It is good to have an end to Journey towards, but it is the journey that matters in the End. - Ernest Hemingway
Tie downs are much easier to use as well. Especially with a cinch clip. Pop the meat in the rope, pull the cinch tight, toss the lure. It's a sweet deal.
