Is it legal to use a captive bred crowned eagle from USA? Does anyone have one?
You may want to check the listings in your state to see if they are on the list of raptors or species that are legal to take or use in falconry. Our state has a list of birds to take, maybe other states don't, I'm not sure. Might be worth looking into to.
Still considered an eagle by the USFWS, there are some in the US but not being used actively for falconry purposes.
Are they considered under the eagle treaty act or is just the bald and golden? I know there are a couple of them in the US and owned by some people?? IDK.
The Bald and Golden Eagle act only covers Bald and Golden Eagles. If you read the federal falconry regulations, it appears the feds added additional regulations that specify what kind of eagles may be used for falconry
(iv) If you meet the requirements in paragraph (c) of this section for falconry you may possess up to 3 eagles of the following species: golden eagle, white-tailed eagle, or Steller's sea eagle.
My take on that is you are pretty much limited to 3 types of eagle.
Mark I'm pretty sure all of those are MTBA because they've been in the regs as long as I can remember. I know some of them don't make sense (e.g., white-tailed eagle) but the Euro kestrel is MBTA too....
