What do you say for permanent hunting straps? I have been reading everything I can find on falconry and I came across a book published in Britan. They advised keeping permanent straps attached to the Aylmeri anklet for hunting and free flying.
I normally cut my jesses in an arrow point at the end of the jesse. The slit should only be just a slight bit wider than the width of the jesse strap. The problem I have found with the mew jesses is that a new bird always pulls them off and back to putting them on over and over again. In training therefore I use the jesses that pull through the grommets and through the other end of the jesse so that it slips onto the anklet and therefore cannot be pulled off by the bird, well most of the time. When I'm flying a bird I do the same with the field jesses because I use parachute cord leashes and they go through a very small hole in the end of the field jesse. The parachute cord is run through and circle piece of leather about the size of a quarter with a hole in the center about big as a bb. The end of the cord is cut and burned and then formed into a point so it will go through the jesses quickly.

Does anyone have any photos of anklets and jesses? Please post a few pics. I'm interested in the ones which fold to the middle and then wrap around the birds leg and have hole punched in them so the jesses can slip through. They don't appear as wide. Anyway I need to do something different for my ferrug since she has those feathers all the way down her leg to the feet. She has been pulling on the leg jess and pretty much has rubbed the feathers of her lower leg on that side.
Sent you a PM with a link to a step by step phot tutorial on another forum, on how to make them. They can be made like this as removable or as permanent mount .

It is good to have an end to Journey towards, but it is the journey that matters in the End. - Ernest Hemingway
