Finally retired, so I'm just getting started, still looking for a sponsor.
Where I live in Central Florida, a suburban area, I see rabbits all the time between the sidewalk and the a joining wetlands and in open parks. I can practically walk up to them. It seems to me it would be easier to hunt with the bird on my glove and launching when he sees the rabbit rather than slogging though the jungle (and it does get thick). I'm also worried about hitting the hawk with a machete, which is almost a required tool around here.
I would think that if I can get within 20 feet or so of a rabbit with a hooded bird, easily done, I could remove the hood and launch the hawk as it bates toward the rabbit.
Is this possible with a red tailed hawk?
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat all day drinking beer.
Possible yes , however not very likely . First off Hunting in State and federal parks is illegal . Second off , Rabbits know what hawks are and some guy walking up to them 20 feet away with one on there arm won't last very long . RTH are ambush hunters and likely wont have the elevation they will need from your glove to complete the kills consistently . Your best bet is to use the typical style of flying RT and allow them to follow you from high perches . There's a few videos on YouTube of guys rabbit hawking RT's from the glove , mostly using rolling hills to give the hawk the height advantage .

I had a feeling that it wouldn't hunt from the glove, but I had to ask. BTW, I was talking about HOA parks.
