Hello I live in orange county california and I turned 14 in febuary. I have been interested in falconry my whole life and done every bir of research that I could possibly get my hands on after a long miserable countdown til I turned 14 with not a day that it didn't cross my mind. What I am humbly asking for is a sponsor. Thanks -ocredneck

Sounds like you've got yourself headed in the right direction. I would recommend finding a few local falconers and asking them if you can go on a hunt with them. Not only will that help you decide if you actually enjoy the hunt, but it will let you meet potential sponsors. Don't ask to be sponsored right off the bat... It's a pretty big commitment for the falconer. Spend time getting to know him and letting him get to know you. Then if you still wanna do it, you can ask him to sponsor you.

Used to live in orange county and there are some falconers in the area, they don't follow forums much. Our big falconry meet is in January in Sacramento, should be a mini meet in October in Bakersfield. Its gonna be hard to find a sponsor willing to take on someone who can't drive though, its pretty important to be able to get to hawking fields and maybe to the vet if your bird gets injured or sick. Think about your situation and if its fair to the bird.

Ok well I scoured most of orange county looking for fields to fly my rts and never saw one jack, there are pocket bunny fields if you don't get kicked out. There are guys in orange county that travel out to the inland empire just to fly their harris hawks. By the way the raptor vet in orange county is Dr. Weldy at Serrano Animal Hospital I believe in Lake Forrest. I used to volunteer at his raptor rehab center off El Toro rd. Im assuming since south orange county and north san diego county are both acceptable distances for a sponsor you live fairly close to Dana Point or San Clemente?
30 minutes from those places. i'm familiar with those places. all my friends go to el toro high and serrano intermediate lol. I don't wanna give away to much info so i won't say where I live exactly but have you looked in the canyons?

The time I lived there as an apprentice was only a season but I tried a lot of different places and found 2 that worked well for me. Plenty of bunnies and good flights. I moved north for a new job (current job) 4+ years ago. By the way both fields I found where between 30-45minutes away from Laguna Niguel where I lived. If you really think you can handle it, I say find a sponsor and get cracking. Good luck!
