Just starting to lear about falconry. Reading up as much as i can. Any who im trying to find a sponser up here. So far the closest one to me is 100 miles away.
That alone could shut me right down. As driving 200 miles round trip would kill my bank acct.
I live 1 mile away from our 700+ acers of property. And some cousins have extensive fields on the the other side of town. So i have alot of places to go.
Oh and my father always wanted to do this when he was younger. Just never did it. I know if i got into it he would flip over it!!
Just a word of advice, falconry can be expensive, especially if your bird gets injured or sick. Thus, if driving 200 miles is going to "kill" your bank account (especially with gas prices at the levels they're at right now) then you might want to hold off until you have a steadier flow of income. Access to hunting land is great, but building a mews, buying/making equipment, and paying the licensing fees all cost money. Somewhere on here is a thread that talks about the cost of starting out, you might want to search it out to get a good idea of what you'll need, moneywise. Also, have you contacted your state's falconry club yet? They're a good source to find falconers in your area. Good luck!! -Joby
Yea thats where i got the 200 miles round trip. And i mean i could'nt do that more than once or twice a month. I would worrk about my truck also. I can drive around town and to closer citys but 100 miles is a long ways to brake down from home.
And the mew is all my own wood. Im a carpenter. And pretty handy at making my own stuff.
How often did you guys/ gals have to meet up with your sponser ?

my sponsor was 2 hrs away and I spent the first yr going down every weekend. I spent the weekend down there flying birds and having fun. also allot of time on the phone. so a measly 100 miles I dont feel is that bad of a trip. I drive more than that now just to go have a weekend with flying birds. I look at it as going out with the birds without having to deplete my own fields and get a change of scenery.

Spending the weekend would be hard with my wife being preggo with our first. And i have ALOT of areas around me.
Just waiting for the dnr to get back to me. Hopong for someone closer. Not to sound like a dumbass but after reading and more reading. I feel like i could almost do it with out one. I mean i know i need one for help. I just think i could do it with out seeing them every weekend. But if thats whats needed then i guess i would have to suck it up and do it.

sorry but if you think that you can do this with just reading then you are in for a big surprise. a good sponsor is invaluable. there are allot of things that you will need to do and be able to see that you cant get from reading. but your sponsor who has seen all these things will be able to tell you what is going on. for you to presume that you just dont need a sponsor tells me that you really arent ready. trust me when I say that having someone that can see the birds behavior and see what you are doing wrong is a must

I agree with you 100% I need a sponser. I guess i what i was trying to say is that if i could see them every other week i could handel that. But like in my last post If i have to go every week then i will.
IM not trying to say i can totaly do without one. If there was one closer I probly would be over as often as posible.
