I have a German Shepherd and I have trained many breeds as that is what I do...dog training. I am going to (all going well) use my GSD for Falconry. He has a nose on him and will track whatever I have him take sent of. I had a client that had a GSD and is would follow their Springer when her husband went hunting and it soon learned to point and flush. They are a versital breed...just have to get one with the right temperment ,drive and have obedience on them.Mine would probably be a good retriever in duck hunting cause he LOVES to swim and he is great at retrieving.Just would have to make sure he didn't eat the duck on the swim back.lol

I too think this breed is quite versatile. Part of what makes up a working breed is adaptability. I am partial to the GSD so I might be a bit biased. My father trained them in the early 50's. The USAF had just started using them as sentry dogs. They guarded the flight line where the alert B-52's were parked with there nukes. These animals were no nonsense. They were all about the work. If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away

WOW that is pretty cool that your father got to train them when they (as I have been told) were much better quality then.I had a black German Shepherd like that.He was DDR (East German) lines. The one I have now is Czech/DDR.His sire was used in Czech for border patrole. He is a serious dog!! Mine loves to work....much more then I do.lol
