I was wondering how the mini doxies do in the snow we hunt here in some pretty deep snow sometimes and i know the one we had as a family dog some years ago hated the snow and my mom useto dig a path for him all the time. Im trying to figure out what dog i would like to get for hunting and just because i miss having a dog i wouldnt mind having a mini doxie again.
I have 5 mini doxies and regularly run them under my birds and they handle our snow cover fine. While we don't get as much snow as you do where you live, but my buddy Bill Boler does up in N. Indiana and his dogs do fine. -Joby
this was my first season with a mini-dachshund. She handled our snow pretty well. She likes snow, but hates rain. She did slow down if the snow was more than a foot or so deep. I carried her some in the deeper drifts - but she really wanted to run herself. If there is a good crust from thaw/freeze she could run on top of the snow.
I'm sold - they are great little dogs. But I like my Vizsla too.
