what I have done is cover the cage and keep them in a warm room with the lights on so that there is enough light to see the food and water but not enough to freak them out. but that still only gives ya a week

Dirthawkers right about covering the cage. All the food and water in the world won't help if they don't have a sense of security, the stress will kill them. I always put a small cardboard box in for them to hide in as well as cover at least half of the cage, and place the cage somewhere away from human activity, like the back corner of the least active room in the house or a storage shed. Never had to keep them alive over a week though, so don't know how long they'll really last. And they do have high metabolisms and will go through food and water fast, so make sure there's always food and the water is clean every single day.
Ive kept them alive for months. I basically made a miniature mew, but with tiny windows covered by hardware cloth. By tiny i mean 1inch x 2 inch windows. These were mainly for ventilation. near the top on the back side i made a series of nest boxes with perches in them for them to hide in. On the top i had 2 uv lights on a timer set to give them 8 hours of dark 8 hours of light. This setup worked great Very few died but i believe those that did died for other reasons. I also cruched up dog food into the seed for extra protein.

Same for me, I just keep them in the sparrow trap but keep it covered on 3 sides and under a table to give them security. They usually last 4-10 days...
"i don't know food intake" "grubage" what the hell?

i keep mine in the trap and put the trap out when i go to work. have kept some alive in there for 2 weeks. just fresh water, and i throw a ton of food on the floor of the trap to bring in the other birds!!
at night bring them in and cover the trap. on cold nights i put a light over one section, cover off that section, to keep warm.
Just wondering if someone has some good plans for an effective repeating sparrow trap. I have found several ideas on the net, and will try to build one this weekend but if someone has an awesome design let me know.
Also I hear bread and water is fine to keep them viable for a short time...?
If someone should dare to steal anothers hawk, either let the hawk eat six ounces of meat placed on the offenders testicles, or, if the offender prefers, let him pay six solidi to the hawks owner.
I was going to use some bird seed and bread. Unless otherwise informed. Can you send me the plans that you have KJ?
