Lol I didn't know about the movie. Yes, big book. 400+ pages. Nah, it won't make you want to stop hunting rabbits. I mean, if you read a book from a hawk's perspective and the author made its mind sound evil, you wouldn't start hating hawks!
I read the book a long time ago and have seen the movie a couple times, if you like The Secret of NIMH you'd like Watership Down. The movie spends more time on the battle between the good rabbits and the bad rabbits and has fights between them with blood and everything. It's almost creepy and yet fascinating at the same time...
back on track: feels good to have a handle on what's going on with your bird doesn't it? Glad you got her in.
Well took her back to the vet today...got her onto some steriod eyedrops that she has to have every day twice a day for three days. No flying for at least this entire week...sponsor called and said to do some jump-ups with her. She's been in the GH today...I want her to rest as much as possible.
I got off work this evening at 9 and went to get her out to feed her....she was sleeping there and when I opened the door she usually wakes up and stares at me...not this time. She just sat there, head tucked under her wing....hmmm.... ....woke her and she turned to stare at me, blinked once and then tucked her head back under again. Not sure on if this is a good sign...if she is just healing up and needing her rest.
She finally woke up and realized that it was time to eat and grabbed the glove hard on the way out. I put her onto her perch and did ten jump-ups with her. I hooded her to bring out the lure and placed it onto the ground. I placed it on her right side, (her bad eye side), and unhooded her and she just sat there looking around. Usually she jumps right onto it and so I moved it and she began to look around for it before she finally caught sight of it with her left eye (good eye). So this is not a good sign to me...I'm praying that she's not going blind but I think she is, or just healing....but it worries me.
I know its possible to fly a bird with one good eye and if it leads to that I plan on flying her with one good eye, to re-train her with the thought that she can still get to animals with her one good eye. But I pray that she recovers sight...I tried a test after she ate with a pencil and placed it in front of her left eye and she bite at it...did the same thing to her right and she did nothing. Argh! I want to pull out my hair...this bird is a great bird and my sponsor says things like this happens when they crash through the brush....but why Zoey?!?!?!
Zoey will come around! She's a great bird and you two are an AWESOME pair. When I came along with you guys on that hunting trip a few weeks back, I was extremely impressed and happy!
Keep your head up!
PM or text or call or whatever if you need someone to talk to!
