>>Apperently a general needs to be a general for 2 years BEFORE they can sponsor someone<<
In a lot of ways I agree with this one. I think that its important to be able to sponsor someone and really show them how its done, a little more time should be required. There are Apprentices I've seen that still havn't made their first wild kill by the two year mark, or there is 1st year generals who have had a total of 8 months of bird time (yea, thats the requirement, 4 months in each of your 2 years) to me, someone with 8 months of bird time is not ready to tell someone else how to do it right. Hell, I might have put myself into that group a couple years ago.

But thats just me.
I am NOT going to disagree with you. more experience is ALWAYS better!!
i just know that there are some people here that figured in 2 years they would be ready for sponsorship, now its 4.

I dont agree I have seen first yr generals that would be better sponsors than some of the masters. it just depends on the sponsor. hell I have seen some masters that a pre AP could be better than. but I do think it is OK for the regs. I think it was a give and take deal. we give they take and we got other things in the long run.

I agree with that also, T78 is a perfect example of the comment. BUT isnt that the exception and NOT the rule? of 100 firt year general how many fit into your demographic? AT BEST i would say 5 a year!! your thoughts! ps. I know that there isnt 100 apprentices making general every year, so now the number is smaller.

Reducing the number of legally qualified sponsors available is one way to reduce the number of apprentices i.e. limit the growth of falconry. I wonder whose idea that was.

But when the new regulations begin, those who would just be turning general wouldn't have to wait 2 years to be a sponsor would they? I would think that those individuals would be grandfathered in?

I think this is one of those state by state regs. For example, in Colorado only master class falconers can be sponsors.
This 2nd-year general sponsor requirement is the new fed rule. States can't adopt a rule that's more lenient - but can adopt one that's stricter (like CO).

Oh, new Fed reg. I guess i should have looked at the subject of the thread. lol
Some people grin and bear it, other people smile and change it.
