OKAY im a little confused and ill informed being a pre apprentice. On the GFA site it states the following. "you will meet all the federal and state standards for keeping your hawk" Does this mean that I will not require a Mews using this setup? Does anyone have any experience using this setup? Would you recomend it?
You need to talk to your state or federal office to find out how they interpret the regs. Here in Idaho a jump box in a weathering yard will work as long as you get F&W to sign off on it. In general the regs are actually really general in most states and really general from the federal level so it's all about interpretation. Hell I saw one setup that was an igloo dog house a bow perch and a watering pan inside a very large dog kennel (bird was tethered of course).
I even discussed not having a mew or weathering yard with my local F&W saying that I might keep the bird tethered in it's own room in the house and the officer I talked with says they're seeing more and more of that so it might be ok.
Best bet is get with your sponsor and get with game and fish both locally and federally and ask what they think.
