As of recently, it is now illegal in Montana to import non-native species into the state, and any non-native raptors currently in possession in the state of Montana are under scrutiny. WTF? So this means, no Harris' hawks, no red-shoulders, no european/african/asian birds of any kind.
This is to "protect the integrity of our native species"
Also, there is an investigation on hybrids in Montana, as there is some alleged suspicion of a fertile specimen that has been in contact with wild native species. Is this the case in any other states as well? This bugs me...a lot. I was thinking about maybe buying a hybrid or an "import" bird when I got my general (i.e. aplomado)

Only thing i could find online was that they did not allow non-natives to be released into the wild, which is the case in most states. I guess they have no published it online yet.
