So I was thinking about the state license, knowing it was going to expire soon... So I just decided to go to the CA DFG website to see when exactly...
I found out the license expires FEBRUARY 28TH
the website has the forms for the 2006-2007 year, but NOTHING for the 2007-2008 year, and I haven't received anything by mail. Has anyone in CA received their renewal notices?
I have received mine and so has my daughter. Don't worry, they will catch up to you. Its not cheap here in California. Your sponsor has to fill out an apprentice report also.
yeah i know, i just talked to my sponsor and he got his last week.
I'm really worried, REALLY worried, in my Neighborhood we have 2 "1742" numbers. We have gotten mail from a 1742 Starpine St before, and have always returned their mail to them, but we're afraid that they sometimes get our mail and throw it out!
There are SO MANY options here.
**EDIT**
On a sidenote, I know the renewal application has to go through the USFWS, do we have to pay the federal license again (even though it doesn't expire for 3 years)?

Yes you have to pay for the federal license again. Its going to cost you almost $200 to renew your license. I wouldn't worry about the renewal notice. You will get it and then all you have to do is make a copy of your renewal before mailing it in and no one will bother you. There have been times when we don't get our license back for a couple of months. As long as you pay it your OK.
Life in the big city. Now you know the price of being a California falconer. Each state is different. Washington and New Mexico for sure the falconry license is $25 for 3 years and the federal permit is $100 for 3 years. California requires you to renew every year and each time you renew your state license you have to renew your federal. It has been that way for as long as I can remember. The only real bad part is that the federal part went up to $100 recently.

on a side note i just got my colorado renewal. 100 bucks for state and 100 bucks for federal. my licence expired dec 31 and i just now got my new licence. it took almost 2 months to get it. just think about it like this. you pay more for gas in 2 months than you pay for falconry for a year. its not that bad.
yeah it's a little bit ridiculous, but I'll pay it anyway to keep doing what I love.
But it does make you want to move out of california. Honestly, why doesn't california lump it all together with federal. I'd rather pay 281.50 once every 3 years (100 for fed, and 181.50 [60.50 x 3] for state) then 160.50 every year.
**EDIT** I talked to kyle as well today, he hasn't gotten his renewal stuff either... I'm a little less worried, but it's pretty late!

Is that $100 for Colorado and $100 for Federal every year. I always thought California was the most expensive. I am moving to New Mexico where the license fees are $25 for 3 years. I just hope it stays that way for many more years..
There's about 100 licensed falconers but according to my sponsor he thinks that maybe 50 or so are currently flying birds. In general we have tons of squirrels and tons of cottontails. We also have some pheasant, patridge, plenty of feral pidgeons, lots of ducks and geese. For your eagles I'm afraid you'ld be stuck with coyotes and red fox, maybe turkey when in season??
Hmmm, then again we have LOTS of whitetail deer too ;D
Thanks for the info. I rarely see any po0stings from Michigan. Thats why I ask. New Mexico has about 72 falconers, but, not all are flying birds. They have plenty of game though. Can't wait to get there.
