I received word yesterday from my contact in the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service that the Connecticut falconry regs have been approved for publishing as a "proposed rule" in the Federal Register. They should be published on Modnay, Dec. 20.
After they are published, there will be a 30-day public comment period, then they will go back through the review channels before being published as a " final rule" in the Federal Register.
The best estimate I have for final approval is late April or early May of 2005. Slowly, but surely, we're getting there!
P.S. - The revised Federal falconry regs may also be published as a proposed rule on December 20. That will depend on whetehr they decide to publish them without the revised raptor propogation regs.

The Proposed rule to add Connecticut to the list of falconry states has been published today in the Federal Register by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the 30-day public comment period has begun.
I encourage everyone to write, email, or fax a brief statement in support of Connecticut joining the 48 other states where it is legal to practice the sport of falconry. (Hawaii is the lone state where falconry will not be authorized pending acceptance of this proposed rule.) Note: There will be an official NAFA response to the request for comments soon. However, feel free to identify yourself as NAFA member (if applicable) in your correspondence.
You can view the view the proposed rule by going to the following web site: migratorybirds.fws.gov
On that web site, there is link to download the proposed rule as a PDF (you will need to have Adobe Acrobat on your computer to view and/or print the file).
There is also a link to an e-mail address to which your comments can be addressed: connfalconryregs@fws.gov
NOTE: All comments must be received by January 19, 2005 and must be identified by RIN 1018-AT63 in the subject line for email or referenced in your letter or fax.
Thank you for your cooperation and support.

For those of us whom do not know what format to write it in and to whom could you please provide an example?
Possibly something we could copy and use?
The easiest way is to send an e-mail to: connfalconryregs@fws.gov
You can simply say that you support the proposal to add Connecticut to the list of states whose falconry regulations meet or exceed Federal standards.
If you want to include background information on yourself (e.g., if you are a licensed falconer, a member of NAFA or a member of a state falconry club, etc.) you can, but it's not required. You do however have to include your name and address and RIN 1018-AT63 in the subject line of your email.
Thanks.

Mine was sent........Come on folks...Let's do our part to make it a legal field sport in Conn.! You know we would want the same if it was our state. PS. Jondarp, did you post this to any other lists such as RR or Hawk-L? You could get quite a bit of support there too!

You should receive a responce back if the message was sent properly.

Thanks for your spport and thanks to Zach Falcon (I) and any others who have submitted comments. (My apologies if I'm leaving anyone out.)
I'm not on Hawk-L anymore, but I have posted the notice on a number of Yahoo Falconry Groups besides this forum (e.g., Gamehawking, Hawking, Apprentice Falconry, etc.)
As far as Raptor Repertoire goes, is that list still active? The last time I checked (which was about a week ago) there were no messages posted since the end of 2003. Am I missing something?

That's the right site, but I think they stopped archiving the posts. If you join, you still get the e-mails.

Thanks for the information, Weasel. That explains why I was only seeing the old posts. I just re-joined RR and I'll post a notice about the Connecticut regs there.
Thanks.
