i figured you had to season it, i just dont have that time! but i have read that if you season them for 2-4 weeks, that it works, just isnt as good as one you season for years.
and im actually basing most of my design off of a 14-15th century crossbow
*sorry for double posting in this thread FB, but i find that editing posts, people dont always notice that youve edited them... and the post count is gone, so does it still matter if the thread is mine?*
The wood im using for the stock is Maple, and the wood i will be using for the bow is maple. i was being an idiot teenage boy, and was too headstrong to realize i was working with maple (thats why it smelt so good ). 2-3 trees felled near my house, i plan on going down there with a hatchet and start hackn away and getting some nice limbs and such for bows, stocks, etc, and try to hurry up before termites come!!!! ill shape a bow and put it out for seasoning for 2-3-4 weeks when i get home... and ill probably start on another stock or two to keep me busy!
oh sweet! thanks kurt! after my girlfriend goes to work, im gonna head down and start checking out the maples that fell. i read up on seasoning the bows and such during my 5th period class.
I've built quite a few custom muzzleloaders and a few selfbows along with arrows for reenactors. Haven't done much for awhile now, not enough time. Kurt
