I'm looking for a new camera, taking pictures of birds (in flight and perched) and wildlife. Anyone the "Fuji finepix s5600 zoom" camera before? It looks good, but dunno why it's that cheap. So i'm suspicious lol.
I have the FujiFilm S7000, 6.3 megapixel. I have had it for about 4 years and it has been absolutely fantastic. It does everything. I have posted pictures of the eagles under Golden Eagle training that were taken with the S7000. If you want more pictures email me privately and I'll send you some. You can also check under "Members Work" on this site for more pictures I took with the S7000. These cameras are pretty cheap right now because they have introduced new models. they now have a 9.2 megapixel{S9000} that looks just like the one I have.
Cool, those are really very good pictures. Did you have to buy your own lenses to zoom in that far, or is it a crop? Unfortunately although they're cheap for what they are, they still aren't in my price range lol. Although I'll be getting a new job soon...
The S7000 is not a SLR camera. It has a built in camera with a built in zoom lense. You don't have to buy extra lenses for it. I did crop a couple of the pictures you saw right in the camera before I downloaded them. It is a point and shoot camera and the pictures you saw were taken on the "automatic setting". That means you don't have to adjust for light or focus or anything. Just point and shoot. It does take movies with sound and also has a Macro button and a black and white button. You can probably pick the S7000 up for about $300 to $350. I have seen the S9000 camera for as little as $425 here in the states.
Good camera? Depends on what you want to spend. I just recently bought a Canon Rebel XT. Rated the best bang for the buck. But remember, the pictures are only as good as the lens. This camera is an SLR type and I use three lenses. A 70-210mm, 70-300mm and the stock 18-55mm. I have taken several thousand pics with this camera already and it is great! 8mp and three frames per second makes this an exelent first camera in the SLR field. If you want to go with a fixed lens digital, try looking at the Canon powershot S3. Here is a link to some info on it, but you can probably find it cheaper elswhere. www.wolfcamera.com/product/541161774.htm?bct=t13031003%3Bcidigital-cameras-and-accessories%3Bcidigital-cameras%3Bciall-digital-cameras

The SLR Canon is a very good camera. But now you have more than just $700 invested with the cost of the extra lenses. You can't go wrong with a Canon or a Nikon, but, it will cost you the extra bucks. There are a lot of people who just want a point and shoot and don't want to have to change lenses or mess with any of the other functions of a SLR. When I am out in the field hawking, I can only carry so much. If I have to carry extra lenses in addition to my hawking stuff, I am going to really be loaded down. Now if I am just shooting the pictures and someone else is doing the Hawking, then I can carry those extra lenses. I would say that the Fujifilm S7000 digital is comparable to the Canon S3 except the Fujifilm is a little less bucks with all the same functions. I have used the hell out of my FujiFilm camera and it has done everything I wanted. I wouldn't have a problem buying the Canon S3 and I am sure it would be just as good.

I started with a Kokak point and shoot (DX model....5Mp - I forget the exact model.) - was a great camera for under $200 - they also have a newer model out too. If you're like me though, once you start shooting birds and see how fun and challenging it is, you will want a better camers = SLR. I second the vote for the Canon Rebel XT, and you can upgrade lenses slowly.
Agreed, I has three lenses for mine now. One came with it and the other two where $110 and $190 respectivly. Not high dollar by any means. Heck, if someone wants, I am trying to sell the 70-200mm for $90 right now as I bought the 70-300 instead.

Well, if he couldn't afford the $425 for the FujiFilm S9000, then he certainly can't afford the Canon Rebel at $700. He is talking prices of a point and shoot camera.
Yea, well, I couldn't afford it either....still got it though...LOL!

I think that is the way I am going to have to do it. Just close my eyes and pay the price. I am only working part time and that would be about a months work before I even start to buy the lenses. But, with my point and shoot, you really notice the difference when you try to take a telephoto picture. It doesn't really give you a clear picture if you zoom it all the way. Great on close up pictures.
I got my s5600, it's realllllly good especially for how much it cost me, under 200 pounds! I've never owned an SLR (can't afford it, probably never will, at the moment I have to save up for my gap year which is taking up all my money lol. Also have to save up for my future cottage in Scotland with lots of land and perfect bird aviaries) but this is a bit like how I remember SLRs being. I can take pictures of Dusk in flight, although it's SO much easier when someone else is flying her. I's really really quick as well, I can have it up and running in about a second so very useful. Really annoying about having lens caps though, I know it makes it quicker but I odfn't like it.
