This is probably a worthwhile event, but don't get sucked into thinking that Jonathan Wood is anything close to a good falconer. He's strictly a show person and, from what I've seen, his birds were pretty beat-up looking. I suppose that could be from all of the traveling he does, but considering he's not really hunting with any of them and his makes his living presenting bird to the public, I would have expected the birds to be in better feather.
I saw him at the New York State Fair a few years ago and he had some birds tethered out in the sun and people were allowed to walk way too close to them. I saw a few birds that looked way stressed out.
Perhaps things have changed since then but IMHO, Mr. Wood is not someone that a new falconer should emulate.
I see, thanks for the update Im not sure really what to expect but being at the point where im still doing the paper part I try to goto as many events as I can. But I guess i'll be able to see how he handles his birds compared to other trainers and what not. Ill give ya an update when Its over.
Well I must say It was rather interesting, not for the reasons youd expect. To start though there was this one Alaskan Gyrfalcon that I thought was adorable, It had a nice solid pattern that for some reason I just loved. Other than that I was trying to figure if I was at a bird show or sales show. I know you have to advertise somewhat but it should be done in moderation. (just my opinion >.<) What made it interesting was he had a peregrine and he was swinging a lure around. He tossed it above the audience and the peregrine caught it. However the line he was swinging the lure from had a metal ring around it and it wacked some guy right in the forehead. He was bleeding a little but not that bad. Next show later, to finish it off he just called the hawk by the piece of meat on his gauntlet. Im not trying to say one thing or the other, just what I saw. As in general when I tried to talk to him and ask questions (not that many to be annoying, i got of like 1? >_>) Hes didnt seem interested at all. Its kinda sad, he seems to be doing it just for the money. That is what I gathered from watching, but I could be completly wrong. Im not trying to put anyone down, but first impressions do much.

I went to the Mad about hawks. His birds were mostly from rescues and rehabilitators so I guess they would look beat up. It kinda made me mad that he was using them to take pictures with people. But then again he rescued most of them.
