1) If you can go 8'x16' for your mews with out additional tax penalty, do it. That's what i did. You can partition it into two 8'x8' chambers when you get your general license to keep two birds. That's much easier and less expensive by far than building an addition. If you decide that you don't want two birds then you have a very nice chamber for you one and only. it's a win-win deal.
2) Kill the coyotes. I have problem with them here. Atually, the journals indicate that they may be a problem all over in re. small game numbers. The d**n things get the baby bunnies before they get a chance to get grown . To many coyotes, not enough bunnies = frustating hawking. I say again, kill the coyotes!
3) Get a good sponsor!
Sorry to hear of your losses. I lost my 14 year old daughter last summer. I can tell you from experience that Falconry, being the demanding sport it is, almost forces you back into the here and now and helps stop the throbbing a little. Hang in there.
When Jim posted your web site here, i went for a visit myself. I was dumbfounded! Very impressive! I have never seen such analytical journaling in apprentice falconry before. I think it's safe to say that you have the one and only apprentice site with that type of information on it. It's all very useful. Just one thing; if my sponsor sees that and demands that i do the same thing, will you help me with the graphs ?? Seriously, you've raised the bar. Wonderful work. Congratulations on a magnificent site! And welcome to this Magnificent site. It's home to many of us. Stick around... you'll like it here!

Hey everyone, I'm new here and to the sport. I live in Memphis, TN. Still don't know if this is for me but I really love the raptor class of bird a lot. I've started making contact with local Falconers here in the memphis area so hopefully questions will be answered and things will get rolling.
Darn it!!! I was in Memphis for a month with my bird and couldn't find a single falconer to talk to. I Designed your new trolley system up Madison Ave. What a piece of work that was! I even went to the Memphis zoo to see if they new of any local falconers.....Well, anyway, welcome to the board! I'm from Ft.Worth, Texas and I'm just going into my second year as an apprentice falconer. I fly a female Red Tail hawk on squirrels (I happened to notice lots of squirrels in Memphis ;D) Any questions you have feel free to ask the board as were not bashfull about helping out future apprentices ;D Cheers, Noel

Yea, this list is NOT like Hawk-L where they blast every apprentice that asks a question.
