I live in Independence, KY. We have RTs, American Kestrels, Cooper's Hawk, Osprey, Bald Eagle, Northern Harrier, Sharp-shinned Hawk, Red-shouldered Hawk, Broad-winged Hawk, & Peregrine Falcons. I think the Rough-legged Hawk migrates through Kentucky as well. I literally see about 2-3 RT's everyday! and I'm not even looking for them! We have some vultures too, Turkey and Black but they're just scavenger birds. I know we have Owls but can't even begin to name them... Don't study up too much on Owls.
I should of posted here first but when I first registered I new very little about the birds in my area so I saved it untill I had some knowledge.
I live in siskiyou county in a little town called Fort Jones, ( very northern california) Here we have a ton of RT's, Kestrel's, some Cooper hawk's ( i axidently caught one in my boat shed), a few Merlins, Bald Eagle's,Golden Eagle's, and a couple Marsh hawks.
Im suprized no one else is from California (I was under the impression that the majority of the falconer's lived here but I could be wrong.) However, I was able to find the only Master Falconer in the county with over 40 years experience and is now going professional. This guy is incredible and Im sure i can learn alot more about life in general besides falconry from him.
Hey FB, I lived in Maryland for a few years when I was a kid....Then again I have lived just about everywhere ;D I am trying to remember the town but I will probably have to phone the folks to find out.

I think I heard several of them say...."Get a rope!"

Hey!....I'm not from Texas....but I got here as fast as I can!!!! ;D The reason for living in so many places was my fathers job was in engineering and installing oil filled high voltage cable thought the desert in the middle east and parts of Africa so we moved to the nearest safe location 1000 miles away ;D

the though of high voltage cables that require an oil based insulation . that just sounds intimadating. Did he ever flip the switch gear for any of those. Chris (Sparkie) Foster
He said the switches were in a vaccum oil bath enclosure so the didn't really make the traditional BANG on a good 4000amp breaker ;D his main job was calculating the oil pressures in the cable as the elevation changes on the route reqired the oil to be pumped up hill via pump stations to make sure no air could be sucked into the cable. If this happeded then the cable would use the oxegen as a conductor and turn about a 10 foot area of desert into glass. personaly. I would like to see the whole desert in the middle east turned to glass The breakers I work with in our substations are 4000-6000 amp DC breakers. They each have a 3 pahse 480v motor just to wind them up. When the winding is done it pauses to do a self check on the line via built in megger and then slams in so hard that the building shakes......No matter how many times you push the button you are never ready for it. Makes me jump out of my skin every time.
