SkyRider, I'm not a Montanan but your state sure is beautiful. I've done some hiking in the Silver Bow National Forest, near Butte, and a bit more hiking up in Glacier country. If I had my way, the wife and I would have moved up there long ago (we live in Mississippi), but from reading the online Missoulian regularly it seems like too many wealthy folks from CA are moving in and driving up real estate values.
I saw a lot of birds up there, but no raptors. I had hoped to see a Great Grey Owl while in Glacier, but no luck.
May the wind under your wings bear you where the sun sails and the moon walks, till your eyries receive you at your journey's end.
So you're saying you're a Montanan... who doesn't live in Montana? Okay, works for me.
I let you know about this board? Who are you then?
Tanager, I agree, it is a beautiful state. How did you not see a raptor? I see them flying around town almost every day. Not to mention we have bucketloads of nighthawks at my street light.
As for Californians running up land prices, in the west, yes, that's true. Over here in the eastern side, it's not quite so true. So you're welcome to come move up here and BS with me, well, if you could get into chatting with a teen
Actually, I think this fellas name is Jason, looking back now. He's in the military or Navy, something like that. Anyway, he and his wife are looking to get into falconry when they come home. They're thinking about Montana ;D
Hey, I'm from Montana. From the beautiful Big Hole Valley. I'm trying to find a sponsor thats not five hours away from my home. a lot of raptors around here reminding me to get moving. Any suggestions for someone who is wanting to begin?
Well, I'm not very old myself SkyRider, only 17. I live about fifty miles north of Dillon in the southwestern part of the state (Region three) and I really don't have that much experience except for taking care of some wounded owls for about two weeks(fun time), hunting a lot, and watching several falconry presentations. out here in the boondocks time isn't realy a problem except for school, but the distance to travel is.
17 Here too. And I'm not positive but I'm fairly sure that there are a few falconers within an hours drive of you. And you have quite a good background for a new starter.
Thanks for the book link. Yeah, I think that I have a pretty general idea of how to become licenced, I know that you have to find a sponsor(working on it) to help you build the mew and to help catch and train your hawk(Redtail or Kestrel), and then you have to take a test which I've heard is pretty hard. Beyond that I don't know much else in the way of qualifying. Is that all?
Also, what is the season for trapping your hawk in Montana? I've looked but I can't seem to find enough info.

Thinking about moving back to eureka, which kinda is a bummer cause all my connections are out here in minnesota. Is there any one that lives close to eureka? It's 60 miles northwest of Kalispell.
Heheheh, I think I may be your closest. To my knowledge Skyrider and Exile are in Great Falls, Fletch (who's not on here very often) is in the Beaverhead area and I'm in Missoula...I don't know if Great Falls is closer or not
There's not very many of us.
