hello, my name is nate, ive been so entrigued by this falconry and dont even know where to begin. Besides reading all the readings from others that have a lot of knowledge about this sport. I live in the eastern panhandle of west virginia, jefferson county and im literally 20 minutes from fredrick, hagerstown and whenchester. Since i live in west virginia must I get a sponsor in west virginia and take the test in west virginia? sorry for all the questions im just so curious and intrested in this. all answers would be greatly appriciated
I love animals, and being around them while celebrating environmental awareness through the great culture of fishing and hunting, foremore guranteeing balanced biodiversity. I don't make excuses for loving the outdoors and being a hunter
Has anyone seen any passage RT's?!! lol I'm seeing nothing but haggards this season, and gas money is running low! None the less I'm out in Frederick. Anyone near by do any ridge bow net trapping? let me know if you see a passage!
Hello! I am a new member on this forum. I am working with a raptor rehabber and I would really like to work on getting a falconer license. I am wondering if you know anyone who has the time and the space to take an apprentice, I know it is two years and a master or general falconer cannot take more than three at a time. I am 28 years old, have worked at the National Zoo as an intern, I am member of the BCC IWLA, also happy to travel if I need to. Working on getting into veterinary school, would like to specialize in birds/wildlife and large animal. I grew quite close with a Coopers Hawk while working with the rehabber, really an amazing bond to form with a wild animal. They are so intelligent. I have done some creance flying with red shouldered hawks, as well as exercise flight with coopers hawks and kestrels. If you or anyone you know has the time I would love to start in January as I am away for about a month in MA working.
I've found this site through google searches and as of yesterday registered here. I'm an apprentice already and will be one year through come Decemember. My question is has anyone heard anything from DNR about accepting the new federal falconry regulations? Neither my sponsor nor his other two apprentices have heard anything. I called DNR myself and they said that the new regs would be out this month for review to all licensed falconers and would be in effect by trapping season September 10th. Though it's exactly half way through the month and I haven't heard anything.
