I am hoping to begin my apprenticeship within the next few years and have been reading about potential food sources for raptors. In most of the text I've read, the use of Pigeons is strongly discouraged for two reasons, 1) The risk of frounce, and 2) Transmission of avian herpes. When authors support the use of Pigeon meat, they either promote freezing, or using human reared Pigeons to eliminate the risk of frounce. Those authors fail to address the issue of avian herpes. Have I been misinformed about Pigeons transmitting such a disease, or is it not a serious condition? Any input is appreciated, thanks.

Herpes, pox, frounce and many more are transmitted by pigeons. Too bad you missed a few pages of about this very topic. Unless I had no choice I would NOT feed pigeon. Yarak
If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away
Sorry if this was a repeat, I tried searching the word "pigeon" and couldn't find a thread on the subject of disease. Probably due to my own error. Thanks for the input, if anyone can link me to the other info I would appreciate it.

THe search function isn't great. One thing you can do to help is make sure you change the number of days so it searches father back, i think the default is only the past 7 days.
