Hey Rampager I HAD thought of building one that way my dad even has an old fridge that I can hopefully get my hands on. How exactly did you convert yours?
Believe it or not its real simple. First thing I did was gut the fridge. Take out every thing. Compressor, fans, racks, etc. then cut about a 6" hole between the freezer and the cooler part of the the fridge. Here you will mount your fan so it will blow from the freezer to the cooler. Straight wire this to you power source so it runs constantly. Maybe wire ina switch so it could be turned off so you dont have to unplug the whole thing to turn it off. Next Wire you Two light fixtures in series ( possible part of the crap you ripped out fo the fridge) in the freezer compartment send the wires through the thermostat located in the cooler compartment located near the exhaust from the fan tothe power supply. That is the basics of the the incubator after that design your racks depending on what you plan to hatch. Put a humidity pan in the freezer for the humidity and a good thermometer in the bottom to assure you that the temp is right and hatch some eggs. Word of caution DONT use heat bulbs for the heat source they are way to much overkill and they can melt the inside of a plastic fridge not to mention kill you eggs. 2 - 75 or 100w light bulbs are perfect. Its not real complicated and there are illistrations if you click the link on my other post. good luck
hey my mom has bin leaning toward falconry a bit more but wans to know where will i get the food so i was looking thought this section and Managing mammilian prey and feeders section i was considering rats or mice if she lets me do falconry but quail seem allot easy(and maybe my little brother will shut up about get a bird if i let him have one) I have a couple questions 1. what is the best and easiest breed of Quill to breed. 2. i will probably try breeding button quail so how big of a pen would i need.
I'm planing on getting around ten quail. building to pens one would be for the ten or so birds breeding and the other would be for the maturing birds. I would only keep the breeding birds around onces the offspring get large enough the would be gassed and the frozen. 3. would a CO2 camber work to kill the bird(i know it could be used for rats) 4. would quail be fine as the regular food source for a red tail supplemented with game the bird would catch and any healthy animals i could find in a pet store cheap and anything that could fall to a pellet rifle and a have-a-heart trap. chances are though that it would have quail for a majority of its meals. so if anyone with experience plz answer my questions.

I bred button quail last year and believe me your redtail could go through 4 in a day. they are just not big enough. i used coturnix quail and bred them with real consistancy. Your bird may go through one every day to fatten up and then one every other day through the moult then back down to half a quail every other day to bring them back out. I figured id need a good 80 quail to get through the moult and id just order eggs from ebay if you dont want to deal with the breeding part.
Killing is easy, i either choke them or cut the head off. easy as that, no need to spend the money on co2.
quail are a great source of food for the moult but id add some fur in there too, like squirel.
any other questions you can pm me or look my number up in the falconers only section.
