This is 1 fine 8 year old female north american goshawk hunting and captureing ducks in the big city of las vegas. This Gos belongs to Dave Alexander of las vegas nv, thats Dave and pre apprentice Joey in the first picture.
Nice pictures. That's a good looking bird. Must be pretty tolerant hunting right there in the city too. Our duck season opens next week and I'm hoping to get a few.
I wish my gos was ready but he is getting closer each day, I ordered some asper preventive meds yesterday, hopefully by the end if this month he will be feathered in enough I dont want to fly him with blood in the feathers, its killing me
It'll be interesting to see how he progresses. He a CR bird, right?
Just curious, but what are you gettting for asper med? My vet won't give anything for asper without a blood test to make sure liver functions are strong since the meds are typically metablized through the liver and can be tough on it.
I started flying mine with the tail and last primaries still coming in. They were fine. Just make sure you feed them something every day.
I've done this too with my gos and haven't had any problems. The way I look at it, they're better off being hunted during that time rather than just being fed. Especially if it's a young or inexperienced bird.
