Has anyone heard of or had experience with goose-hawking with an RT? My soon-to-be sponsor (also my grandfather) has taken a hen turkey with a female RT, and his apprentice takes wood ducks regularly with his tiercel. It would seem to me that geese would be the perfect intermediary, because they're no too fast, and not too big. I have a lot of places where I can take geese around here (Roseburg, Oregon). In fact, in the winter, my neighbors down the street have about thirty or so geese on their pond every day.

Try a GHO you will have better luck catching a goose with a GH that a RT. Besides they can be better than RTs if you get them early enough. Yarak
If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away

Anything is possible, yet there will be risk involved. Geese have a tendency to mob and help their fellow geese when attacked by a bird, you'd have to be there to assist mighty quick.

Ethics make the individual, not the other way around.
go back and check with grandad, how many turkeis did he take? one. There is a big difference in size from a wood duck to a goose. And geese are a lot faster than you might think. Geese are also a lot stronger than you think as well. I know more than one perso who has had a limb broken by the beating wings of a goose.
I have a frien who ended up with a broken leg after trying to raid a goose nest. Yeah, they can do some damage. European Goshawks were supposed to be able to take them-that's where their name comes from. But a RT? *shrugs*
Give a man a fire and he'll be warm for a day. Light a man on fire and he'll be warm for a lifetime.
I know other people who have taken a turkey or two with red-tails too. Anyways, I guess you're right about the strength and speed (though I was thinking I'd flush them off the ground, and they aren't too fast for about 8 secs.). They are strong, I just hadn't thought about that. I do know that people have been killed when they walk into areas with two or more pairs of geese and really ticked them off.
Not sure if the people story is true, but if they can take out a human, what's gonna make a RT a problem?
Stick with rabbits and squirrels, the game that's been proven to cause not much trouble. There's more than that but you kinda gotta keep size and aggressiveness in view here.
I 'll give you some credit Clm sometimnes the "what if" slips in to a persons thinking and blocks out the logic. But I see you've kinda realised that and admit to it, for that I'll cut you some slack though i'm not know for being too cridical, ( just bad spelling.) Keep thinking though, you never know you might come up with a good idea someday. Could you imagine what they must have said when that first guy said. " Hey let's hang a lure from a kite. " What do you think some of the first responces where to that.
I had done a lot of work with my gos for turkey and geese. Just as she is getting good at them I hear from the state F&W its illegal to hunt them in this state with raptors. Seems if it hasn't been done before its illegal in this state. Anyways, I need to write a letter to the game council to try to get it legal. Other states that have it in the regs will make it easier for this state to do it.

I live near PA, (north east Ohio). Can you hunt with your bird in other states? If so my family has a cabin up in Kane, PA and a weekend up there with a hawk would be a blast. -App16
