There are five wild Turkey subspecies: Eastern, Osceola (Florida), Rio Grande, Merriam's and Gould's. You have the Eastern in SC. Here in Texas we have the Rio Grande.
Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines "Give a man a fish, and you'll feed him for a day; give him a religion................ and he'll starve to death while praying for a fish."
Even a direct head shot kill will result in a very aggressive tumble through the prickly pears. A turkey may fight as long as 30 seconds after it's head is completly taken off.
I can vouch for that. I've seen 'em flop for a couple of minutes after removing their heads with a 3 1/2 inch magnum load of number 2's at ten yards. Spraying blood all the while I might add. Tough birds to kill.

My cast had a nice flight Christmas Eve on a flock of turkeys they pounded the birds until they finaly got one away from the flock. I could see both birds on the turkey but I was too far away to help so it got away but not before loseing a lot of feathers. After I got them both in the air we moved a grey squirrel right next to the action and he paid the price (they hammered it).
