I'm hoping it's just general weakness/low condition, but Tommy has me very scared right now. I called our local avian vet and he is on vacation for 3 weeks. I asked the receptionist if there was another vet I could go to and she said that this vet is the only one that specializes in wildlife. He is very good w/bop's as he has a rehab center at his facility. My sponsor is out of town til Monday and doesn't have a cell phone. I'm not sure what the hell to do!
Here's the problem....I got home from work this morning and planned on hunting Tommy. I fed 3 doc's yesterday to have her ready for today. When I got into her mews, the doc's were on the ground. It doesn't look as if she ever passed her crop over and just cast them back up. The only thing that I can think of is that they were too cold when I fed them to her. I defrosted them on the counter overnight the night before and placed them in the fridge for the day. When I took them out to feed them to her, they felt pretty cold even for the fridge, but I gave them to her anyways.
I was thinking that maybe she was not able to digest them and cast them up. She was acting totally normal yesterday. Today she weighs in at 800g. Her hunting weight is always best between 880-900g. She's acting very weak/lazy. She doesn't want to take the glove, and sometimes when she does she won't grip it with one foot, or she'll lay down on it. The thing that has me worried is her lack of interest in food. I've gotten a few tidbits in her, but nothing big yet. I even tried showing her the lure w/a doc on it and got no response, where it has always been instant. She watched it intently, but no reaction.
I have her inside right now in her giant hood to warm up, and I have some squirrel bits soaking in pedialyte to try and feed her. What else should I do, and what does this sound like to you?
