Hey, I'm still waiting on a call back from my sponsor, but I thought Id see if I got any responses from here in the meantime. Here's the skinny... my new FPRT has been doing fine, been adjusting well, doing great in training sessions. Yesterday everything was completely normal and fine, I remember because I checked her jesses to make sure that they were greased enough. Today however, I noticed this afternoon she was panting, didn't think anything of it at the time, because it was hot, so I misted her off a bit to give her an extra cool down. But, when I picked her up a bit later to check her weight I noticed that her right foot was almost twice the size of her left foot. It doesn't go up under the jesses, it's just the foot itself. I don't see any cuts, scrapes, punctures, anything. But, it is quite a bit warmer than the other foot too. So, I'm a bit worried. Of all the days for this to happen, a Sunday, when the vet's closed! :-( Any tips??

I'm sure there's someone on here who'll know better than me, but you've probably got some sort of infection brewing in that foot if it's warm to the touch. If you can't get to a vet, I'd call around and see if you can locate some baytril for her in the meantime.

might help to soak the foot in a saline solution... epsom salts or some thing like that.... also look for any cuts or openings for infection... then the obvious -> clean it with hydrogen peroxide and apply something like neosporin...
since it is moday, I assume you have taken it to a vet, what was the verdict?
Thanks for all the help, sorry I haven't been on here in awhile. Yeah, it was an infection. The vet searched/dug around until he finally found a spot that looked like it would be the cause of the infection. He thinks it was her having hit her foot too hard against something and ended up with her own nail puncturing her foot. He cleaned it out, bandaged it up, put her on clavamox for 10 days and the bandage came off in 3 days. The swelling went down. It is now officially back to normal and she is doing great -- and flying great! :-)
