OK I'm too lazy to find if we had another thread on this subject and if I remember way back when we did actually talk about frounce once, but that was then and this is now. I was talking to a friend and he said frounce can also be caried by sparrows. This is news to me and was wondering how many people feed sparrows and if anyone has ever actually had a problem with them? And lets compile a list of feed that caries frounce. I know pigeons can and have heard of starlings being a possible source but what else?

My bird recently got Frounce. Everything i read says it can come from pigeons, sparrows and the like but no more information. I am trying to figure out if it could have been the quail that i have fed because this is the only bird that has been food. Are there other ways that they can get this or is it something that is only transmitted via bird to bird?
Some people grin and bear it, other people smile and change it.
First of all, so sorry to hear that. I hope your bird does well on the meds. I've heard that frounce can also come from drinking water that another infected bird has drunk from as well. -Joby
Frounce ISN'T the deadly hard-to-treat disease it once was! It's usually gone with one tab of Spartrix. And it's not expensive either. 50 tabs for around $18. Get the right dosage from your vet (or call the Raptor Center). Treat the bird ... and go hawking.

Thanks for the input guys. I started treatment on Sunday and it is already clearing up. The bird is fat from three days of whole quail so no flying for a few days but oh well. I tend to still er on the side of being overly cautious with these sorts of things.
Does anyone know the dosage guidelines for Fish-zole?
If someone should dare to steal anothers hawk, either let the hawk eat six ounces of meat placed on the offenders testicles, or, if the offender prefers, let him pay six solidi to the hawks owner.
yes in Arizona in the rehab side we see it alot in the sinus cavities. other then swabbing there is a very unique smell. this is passed on by infected bird drinking and other drink after it. Raptors get it drinking after an infected bird or eating infected. If cough early survival rate very high we treat with ronidazole need script for it but have had great success as well as spartrex. But do know people who use emtryl. Best practice if you trap pigeon or sparrows is to freeze for 3 weeks this should kill any nasty bugs they may have
