Well the verdict is in and it's not a dislocated hip. Sorry it took so long but I've been busy with vet stuff for this bird. She's broken her tibiotarsus about a1/3 of the distance down the leg. The vet out here has pinned with an intermedualry pin and 2 extramedualry pins.
Now $2200 dollars later I'm wishing that I had gotten VPI on this bird. Either way though we'll get her fixed up in a couple of weeks. I'll try and keep everyone up-to-date on her status as we go along.
Snafu, what is VPI? Is that pet insurance?

Just a quick read of the coverage, and a quick quote. Basic coverage was $15 per month ($180 per year). For the fracture of this bird, it would have paid out $485 ($310 for the pin, max of $175 for diagnotics). Far shy from the $2200 it cost.....
When I called them they told me “They do not do Raptors they are conceder Wild animals”.
I wonder though if this company is like other, in that what is said by one person you talk to may not be the same when you call back
Maybe this forum and or a few clubs with enough combine membership interest and most importantly the correct facts could change their mind

I just talked to them and they do hawks and falcons but I don't see it as a good deal because it was $255.00 for the right coverage for that type of thing and they would have only paid out the 485 or something like that of the bill. talk about a rip off they should at least give you a reach around after and buy you dinner
dirthawker2004 That’s funny because I called them last night and today they told me nay So who ever wants this insurance and they get a “No we don’t” just keep calling until you get the answer you want
By the way I was calling this number 1-888-899-4VPI VPI Pet Insurance Is that the same place/number you were calling?

yes I talked to the same people as you I had to tell them that it was a hawk or falcon not a raptor and that they had it on there quick quote on the web site. But it still doesn't change the fact that you have to pay $255.00 a year just to get $500.00 on a claim that may or may not happen its a rip off I wouldn't do the VPI just because its just throwing money down the drain. allot of the guys that I know with expensive birds like the ornate hawk eagle ($28,000.00) have life insurance on the bird instead they just replace the bird if something happens and it died.
When I was looking through covered costs, nothing really seemed worth the premiums. You would be better off sticking $255 in a savings account every year, not touching it, and using it if your bird had an emergency. Ran into the same thing insuring a barn. Premiums were so high that at the end of 20 years, I would have paid for a brand new barn. And that wasn't even liablity, just damage....
