I will determine what my bird needs and have been doing it for a long time with out killing one or doing permanent damage. I do give them medical attention by keeping the wound clean and looking for signs of infection. If something doesn't look normal or I don't know I take them to a vet. I for one have never threw my hands in the air and I'm more than capable of paying for my bird's vet bills. As far as training, just cause you have done it for 23 years doesn't make it right. flying any bird in the front yard with passing cars is just dumb. I don't even fly my hawks in the front yard but a falcon? I'm glad you spend so much money on your birds cause it sure sounds like they will need it.

This could be thread thread unto itself. I have been fortunate, the vet I used while in Tx was simply amazing. No office fees and only charged me cost for meds and procedures. It cost me a bit to have the reattachment surgery with no promises of success. Bi-Annual blood work and a physical were routine for me. I would not go for every nick, cut, bite or puncture. I would treat them just the way he instructed me to. I applaud anyone who gives vet care to there raptors, because there are some that don't...ever. Every bite receives some attention every wound also. Without knowing if it would do any good I also gave the equine vaccine for WNV. She contracted it and she lived. I don't wish anyone reading this to think I do not provide my bird with the very best care possible at all times. Many may match the level of care I give my bird but none surpass it. Having done years of rehab prior to getting my permit gave me a leg up on when and why to visit my vet. For those that don't have that advantage it is always better to be over cautious. Experience will teach you when and what to do. Yarak PS: I would not fly my falcon near a road.
If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away
