Hi everyone I want to start off by saying sorry but I am pissed off. I have been moving this weekend, and yesterday when we took the first load of things over to the new place I was out back checking the AC filters and behind the ac unit was a little screech owl. It was very very weak and could not fly at all. I found a box and put her in a cool place inside the house and then came back here to the old house to get the numbers for any rehab centers in my area. I checked the GHO page because I saw that their was a link to numbers to animal rehabs in texas. I took down one of the numbers and took another load back to the new place. When I got there the owl seemed much much better. He was looking around and walking around the box and of screeching at me (didnt like me much) but he was doing really good. I figured I would give he another few hours in the cool house and when I went for a new load of things even picked up a mouse from the petstore for it. Came back, tossed the mouse in and he ate it right up. It even flew out of the box and on to the counter. I got it back in the box and went for one more load of things. When I got back it went south again. Was weaving and could not keep its ballance. Its head was slumped forward and it would roll over onto it back and jerk around as if it was haveing a seizure. I called the rehab center right away. The woman on the other end of the phone kept telling me it was most likley a head injury and that thier was not much I can do for it because in her opnion it sounded like the bird was going down hill and all I can do is make it comfortable because it didnt sound like it was going to make it. I was frustrated. The rehab center is 2 hours away from me and their is nothing in my area at all to help me with this. I told her I cant sit by and just watch it die and I really dont think it is a head injury. I called vet after vet after vet in the area to find someone, anyone that would be willing to look at him but nothing! The woman at the rehab told me to give it sugar water and that it will give it energy, and it might pull out of it. WTF. Their has to be something more. I was looking over the birds feathers and as expected it has parasites on it. Little light red ones with dark heads. I also noticed that it is starting to lose its feathers on its eyelids. I grabed every book I have purchased in the past 3 months and started looking up information. The way it is responding is as if it has wnv. But I am not 100% sure of this. Can anyone help me out here with this. I can not sit back and just watch this little owl die.
