Does anyone have a review of the new scout transmitter? I’m looking to buy a quality transmitter that will last me for a long time, but I don’t have a ton of cash. Used would be fine, but I haven’t really run across any good deals. My sponsor has offered to let me have access to his receiver until I can afford one.

well what i can say about the scout is that its great for the price you pay... if i had the extra money i would have gone for the rt plus. but i cant say i am not satisfied with it. its the only reason i got my bird back after losing her. i also had access to my sponsers receiver untill i got my own. all and all i think the scout is good but not great... if your bird decides to go really far then its not as good its great for finding them when they are close by, definately a shortwinger transmitter, wouldnt be good for longwings.

It works fine, but is a little big for a legmount in my opinion. Never buy a used transmitter, get a new one so you know what you have. I personally like Merlin Systems better than Marshall's stuff.
I think Diablo is using one of the new Scouts, but I'm not sure how often he checks this site. I can vouch for the Merlin Systems stuff and it's top of the line stuff sells for only about $25 more than the new Scout. -Joe

I am using the scout, but still like the Merlin better. Merlin has a new one now with the short antenna, and tap on/off feature. I'll have one of those soon.
Diablo, I've actually got three of the new Merlins (one for the bird and one each for the dogs) and just love them. The new small diameter/short antenna does tend to bend a bit more than the older ones do though. But hey, I can live with that. I think you'll really like them. -Joe
Personally I have not read any good reviews about the Scout transmitter itself but that which was written by the copmany itself and of course the company thinks it is great. Save your money for a great transmitter like the Merlin or a Marshall or from L&L Electronics (that's what I use).
BQ, I just got off the phone with Ed Levine at Merlin Systems and he said to use part number "1/3N MX". It runs $155 for either the tail mount or leg mount, it also has 10 - day low battery indicator. Ed said you could either call him directly, or communicate by fax or e-mail. I've added all of the contact info from their site below. -Joe

I was out in the field with Kyle {ocbpcvolunteer} today while he flew his RT. I checked out his Scout transmitter. That thing is huge and gawdy looking. I showed him the difference in size between the Scout and the Powermax and the minimax that I have. I can see why this thing would get hung up on a fence.
