You all go ahead and buy the exspensive astroturf, i have used the doormats my entire life, as well as my dad, and we have never had a bird that has suffered. Just my opinion. Yeah its different but if your birds are injuring their feet its the falconers fault.
im gonna have to agree with falco, even though i have the expensive stuff (bought in bulk) i never had problems with the doormats. btw i only got expensive stuff cause it was scrap and therefore a lot cheaper.

Wait til ya get a bird that EATS the doormats.
I've used both... but also seen that if the bird's foot isn't well and evenly supported, you can end up with problems. Depending on the species, astroturf may not support the foot well enough.
It's also a matter of that it's just not that expensive. I can make a hood, but I don't make my birds suffer wearing them. It's worth the price of a well-fitted hood made by someone who's good at it. To me, astroturf's the same concept. The birds are worth it.

Those who value security over liberty deserve neither.
If your bird eats its perching material GOOD LUCK getting it to stop. They get eaten the same. I have baught the good stuff and mt kbird tore it to shreds, so i buy the cheaper stuff. Now if the more exspensive stuff was digestable............
One thing to note about the cheap stuf (which I use) There are two basic types of the long leaf asto mats. One of them has squared off tips and it can cause irritation. The other type has rounded tips and it works much better. I have been using the cheap stuff for years without any problems to date and my Harris has never even attempted to try eat it. Not saying it can't happen by any means, just not with any birds i have had.....And at $3 at Wal-mart, I will stick with it for now.

Let me just say
I am in WA now i called northwoods because I needed a tailmount telemetry clip and tailmount spring ASAP to make a tail protector for my coop. I figured i'd pay their high prices just so I could get it quickly. Regular mail should get it here in 1 day.
I called last friday morning, asked if they were in stock, and if they could ship same day. Yes and yes, should be there tomorrow (sat) or monday at the latest they say. Great. Ordered.
Yesterday- Not here.
Today- not here. So I checked my credit card online...bill not posted. A phone call this morning and they said that they hadn't shipped it yet but will today and my bill will also be posted today. Well my bill is posted, but we will see when the package arrives.
I am a bit irritated. I was told it would ship same day as I ordered it, and I specifically stated I needed it ASAP. Even if it did ship today and gets here tomorrow, that's still 2-3 more days w/o it that I shouldn't have had to deal with.
For me, their prices aren't worth it, esp. after this little incident. From now on, mikes, davidson's, or buying from the source is the way to go, even if it takes a bit longer to get here.

I had the same experience as you this past time. Brad, himself took my order and said everything was in stock and will be shipped the next day. Well I did not recieve it untill 3 weeks later! They did not ship my items the next day, they shipped them 9 days after I ordered it.
