the ring on the bottom had a small semi permanently attached leash extender with swivel for tethering inside. When outside on the base or on the spike you tie your regular leash to the big ring
Why would you be afraid Aaron? I only put perch trained birds on it. When first using it i make sure im present to make sure they learn the perch. Once they learn it, it is awesome. Never had problems with it. Also, when using on a fresh bird, i put pipe insulating foam around the copper to protect the bird from hitting the pipe. Once they learn it, they never hang, just fly a quick cirle then right back on top.
ya just becuase of the danger of hanging... maybe cat comes by and they bate and get tired or tangled or whatever... I agree looks awesome for "normal" situations... Doesn't take but a minute...But it is possible to die from hanging. More so than a screen perch which I also hesitate to leave birds on unattended.
99% of the time no problem especially for birds that know how to regain the perch...
But I love perches like these for indoors when I am there. Best way to keep tame and it actually keeps them from bating.
Here are a few pics of my shelf perch that i use for indoor perching. This one is made for kestrel to merlin sized birds but the same design is used just enlarged for larger falcons. You can notice i used a fixed leash and also there is a drawer underneath where you can put down some newspaper, astroturf or kitty litter for easy cleanup of mutes.
So, apparently, ive become the person to come to for something custom, and made out of coroplast...
Thus, someone came to me, and requested a copy of Falco's shelf perch.
Got a bit of cleaning up on it to do, and finish the trim on the edges, but there it is! drawer in the bottom and all ;-)
thanks for the specs on it Falco!
oh and if anyone wants one, its gonna be 75+shipping for an disassembled one. Maybe less depending on what shipping turns out to, everything would be included of course, including the astro.
