No , telemetry is not a necessary piece of equipment.
However, I couldn't put a monetary value on ' Solomon ' even if the law allowed me to sell him.
Early this season I flew him with heavy leaf cover on the trees & the briars were thick on the ground.
He caught squirrels at the very tip of the trees often, as well as spotting them way before I did.
Several times he looked like he was flying over the tree tops only to swoop a squirrel from the highest limb & continue his flight along the tree line.
I couldn't find him once for 45 mins with help from a hunting partner, he was located in a ditch & was evading me by being still as I approached.
( he had killed the small squirrel & was marching along towards cover, presumably to eat his catch alone ).
I took him out in a decent wind the other day, again he was in the top of the tree line battling the gusts blowing at him.
I continued on but couldn't locate him in the high trees, the lure was brought out with no luck.
I walked alongside a small creek bed & found him 100 yds ahead of me eating a squirrel, he had killed it & broken in through it's skull.
The new " Scout " may be a system I'll consider buying.
If it saves wasted time in the woods, locating your bird quicker, it's got to be a good investment.
The falconers I hunt with use either " Marshall " or " Tracker " systems with leg mounts & only 1 bell.
I was also told that the same tracker systems that " dog hunters " use can be bought cheaper than a Falconry rig ? & is compatible.
