^^ Understand ya Grappler, what was that song..."That is the End of the News?" It's funny how, even in this age of anti-discrimination when we try to pretend that everyone is exactly the same, all nations are still different. Not better nor worse, but different. I hope it stays that way.
Three bells is interesting, never come across that before. Don't you find it slows the bird down a bit? Or becomes very annoying lol

I've never noticed a difference in the birds speed and I don't find it annoying when they are ringing. I find it annoying when my bird is down and I cannot see it because of the brush. The bells are great for me here in Utah. Also they are really loud as the bird is flying through bushes and trees and I can hear the general direction of the flight if I cannot see it. Another thing to remember is just because they sell bells for "red-tails" doesn't mean you have to use that size. You can always use smaller bells on birds which you can hear just fine too. I actually use the size recommended for prairies on my large broad-wings!
'Tis but mirth, Grappler even coaxed a laugh, a precept not unakin to me, as I shall smile as Jove would have me.
Mark you though Grappler, you squeak with no mitigation or remorse in your voice, even with the swiftness of using Queen's English
Saint Me uses but one bell, mounted as pose on the train. It does suffice, and, while I stretch out my hand to him thus, and call him unto my gauntlet, he will glide, and it shall ring true.
I may command where I adore; But silence, like a Lucrece knife, With bloodless stroke my heart doth gore: R, E, N, doth sway my life.
Sneck up my lords! Go shake your ears.

America and England. 2 countries separated by a common language ;D
Being a know nothing pre-apprentice, I've followed a few threads here and elsewhere on bell mounting.
Leg mounts on bewits seem to be the classic solution.
Attaching them to chaps or anklets seems to be a worthwhile evolutionary step.
Tail and neck mounts seem to be the most controversial.
Has anyone seen or tried a backpack mount? I was looking at the Marshall Trackpack transmitter mounting system, and it looks like it could be used to mount a bell solo, or in combination with a transmitter.
It would be more expensive, laborious than neck, foot or tail mounting.
......eh? lol it may be Shakespeare but it sounds like Chinese....
I had some bewits on Dusk, but she got them off in a jiffy. Plus I can't be bothered to make new bewits. So I just use a cable tie on the anklet. Never had any problems with it. I often feel tempted to put on the second bell, simply because it sounds so much nicer. Well, there is also the fact that the second bell is in the kitchen drawr so that when someone opens the drawer I think Dusk is in the kitchen. But if I put 2 bells on, I have nowhere to put the ID disk. Even though it's a ghastly thing and it says "Buster" instead of Dusk...I like the sound of the bells, but tail bells are just tooooo loud. I'd probably have tail bell if I flew in long grass or woods though. I've heard of a backpack device, can't imagine using one though. I don't think it would be all that loud, but hey I've never used one. They might be great...how would it be mounted, and ould it be any heavier than a tail or leg bell?
I think it may not work as well as a tail bell, but probably just as well as a leg bell, if the feathers didn't get allcaught up in it, but it's more expensive, and has no immediate advantages that come to mind.
And yes, it was shakespearean, my Lord lackbeard.

I use one leg bell and one tail bell mounted above the telemetry on the tail. Bells are usually produced with two matched tones so they can be heard in differing weather conditions or for different hearing capabilities. I've never put a bell on a bird that i haven't attuned to my own hearing.
of course tail bells are sold singly as i guess it is assumed that everyone buying a tail bell will be using telemetry anyhow.
on that subject my FHH was on a pheasant and she was motionless so no bell sound the Telemetry system put me right on top of her but she still froze so no bell sound
Grappler, did you Velarde bells? If so, Ricardo lives here in Provo, Utah and will sell directly to you. If that is who you meant I'll post his address. I use his bells and hoods exclusively!
