I use small diameter climbing rope that I buy from Sport Chalet. You tie a knot in one end and then use heat to melt it {the knot}to keep it from coming undone.
I use nylon type ropey type stuff from B&Q. Nylon so it melts (fraying and stuff), and it's soft on the birds, and cheap.
When through the woods and forest glades I wander And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze

Ethics make the individual, not the other way around.
I use parachute cord unless its a new youngster and i use a Bungee cord but on a short leash.
I am thinking of switching to Bungee all together
Dont use bungee cord the recoil from the cord has caused broken legs in many a HH & RTH.
True but then has normal leashes!
The trick is to have a short leash and to have a fairly stiff bungee. This just takes enough off the bate and pressure of the legs. The rebound is so minimal that a broken leg will not occur. The trouble is many use it far to long and its not broken legs usually but legs pulled out of their sockets.
Like anything in Falconry use the right equipment in the right way and no problem if you get one of those wrong then you are heading for trouble.
