$2000....? That I did. I have siding, roof felt and shingles, walk in work area with shelves and doors to each mew, storm door to the outside, EMT conduit for the bars, lighting in both chambers and work space, raised floor in work area, two yards of gravel, trim on the outside to make it perdy ;D and overall heavy construction with 2x4, 2x6, 2x8, 2x10 and 4x4................It's not going to fall down anytime soon ;D
Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines "Give a man a fish, and you'll feed him for a day; give him a religion................ and he'll starve to death while praying for a fish."

I started out with a $400 plan... which got upgraded to a $600 plan... that got improved to a $1200 plan... and built for $1800... and we're still adding
theres a spring house across the street that, with a little work, will make a pretty good mews (11x9x8) and I'm planning on making most of my stuff. One of my brothers said he would help me make a bow perch, giant hood (it's wonderful having a brother who's an apprentice cabnit maker ;D) and pretty much anything else I need. I'm still trying to figure out the price of everything... can't find any good leather stores around here that I can get to . I'm trying to keep the price as low as possible since I'm paying for it and nobody will hire a 14 year old 'cept for babysitting.
how much money do you think i have to spend for all the equiptment i really need including the mew?
then how much MORE money do i need for extra things?
I was looking at a forty-two foot boat a few years back. I asked the salesman how much it cost to operate. He gave me that tired ole saying, "If you have to ask that, you can't afford it." I vehemently disagree. I think that it's prudent to understand the financial responsibilities of anything before you get involved whether it's boating, having a child or falconry. However, those who advised you to study are on the right track. The more one studies the clearer the financial picture becomes. We have posted all sorts of financial short cuts on this site. They're good ones b/c they'll save you money without sacraficing quality. It's one thing to be frugal, it's another thing to be cheap. The birds health and safty are your responsibility and it's gonna take a little money. You can get started in falconry for about $1500. Less if you're really clever and handy. But not much less. Pakistani bells for $6 will work instead of Noble bells for $30. A coroplast giant hood for $20 will work as well as the ones you can order off the web for $300. There are all sorts of ways to save on your mews. Costs are high, but it's worth it, if you're really serious about the sport ;D
My mews has just cost me £150 ish, possibly a bit less. My bird - I have an excellent sponser who has given me a male Harris Hawk.
Anklets, jesses ect - coupla square foot offline of roo hide costs about seven quid per sqare. Perdy easy to make that sort of stuff, steer clear from shop bought stuff. Glove - 2 welding gloves (given), and I got a proper gauntlet for £12 Perch - nice sponser again, given me that too Bag & lure - £5 on ebay together (both really good) Leash - about 80p per leach from B&Q Scale - £7 from argos, perch shoved on top. Swivels - angling shops any other misc equipment - nice sponser once more.
Its really not that I'm cheap, and won't spend money on falconry. I now don't have a penny (litterally) left. I just don't have the funds to be un cost-effective, I'm not rich. I like working really hard for falconry, and i don't really understand people who prefer to pay over working hard,
