Theres a printable sign just like yours on GA's falconry club website and if any one needs help building a g-hood and you dont know what the measurements should be then click here >>> www.georgiafalconryassociation.com/gianthood.pdf and then click on PDF to print at the bottom of that page and there you go Giant Hood plans, if you want to make it lighter dont put the vents in there and just drill holes and just put 1 piece of ply wood on the outside on each side instead of 1 on outside and 1 on inside.

I have the design for a corplast hood. I love them. They are very light (no you can't sit on them) but I'm forever taking them in and out of my van so need them to be light. If you want it PM me and I'll send it to you.

Pitbull, had a look at the site. Wow, thats a great ghood. I might even try one myself even though I have three corplast ghoods now. I've never been very happy with the venting of the corplast. I think I would put a lot of coats of poly though to make clean up easier.
I made my G hoods from aluminum and plated steel. they cost about $120 to make but they will certainly last. would be even more expensive to make out of all aluminum( which was original plan) They weigh 20lbs which is perfect for riding in back of truck. All materials were bought at lowes. I used aluminum angles for the frame and flat aluminum for extra support. Once i built one I discovered the inside sounded like a tuning fork. so I sprayed on a rubberized coating and truck bed liner on the outside to absorb vibration. It measures 24x24x11, which was convenient for buying the pre cut peices of metal at lowes. There was little cutting and no waste material. the slick metal surface on inside makes for easy cleaning

i recommend forest hawk equipment. Their boxes are kinda expensive [300-400], but the one i saw was amazingly nice and well built. If my kbird didnt ride so well on teh headrest i'd get him one.

hey i'm new to this message board so i guess this will be my first post...anyways, going back to the giant hood, i use the garbage can. my sponsor uses it and its affordable, looks pretty cool, and light weight. she cut off the top half of the can and filled in the bottom. i havnt taken that close of a look, but i think the bottom is plywood, u cant really tell. but inside she insterted a perch rapped with turf and also a turn perch ontop of the entire thing, which doubles as a handle to carry it. the door is this metal that was shaped to curve with the can. it looks pretty cool i think, but the best part is that its light weight
Just make sure that the edges of the metal door are smooth as the bird will at some point try to get a foot on it. Weasel
Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines "Give a man a fish, and you'll feed him for a day; give him a religion................ and he'll starve to death while praying for a fish."
they are smooth, and it is imposible for the bird to touch any metal edges when it is inside. its latches in the front and overlaps a little so there isnt any problem. but thanks, i'll definitely keep that in mind when i build mine
Aaron, I really like that giant hood. I have not had to use one, and I do not have a bird yet, but from a craftsman's point of view, looks like an excellent idea. I also fly RC airplanes and some of my fellow pilots make planes out of coraplast and they hold up great. I was worried about the light till I read about painting. Great question falconess.

My dad and I made 2 new giant hoods over the past 2 days. One is a kestrel GH, which I made a "closeable" window on. The other is an old fashion RT box, it is going to a guy in Ohio in august. Here are the pics, they still need polyurathane and the perches wrapped.
You will notice a few things that i have done differently from my last box. it is still made of luan and 1x2's, however the back has a thick plastic coating as well that i got for free from the hardware store beccuse they didnt want it anymore [it was ripped]. It is a PVC vinyl sheet that normally costs $15 for a 4x8ft sheet. The floor also has a removable section of this sheeting, which will allow me to easily clean the GH without having to hose it out and damage the wood, or use newspaper everytime, just slip out the sheet, and wipe it with a sponge. I can also wipe the back section with a sponge because of the sheeting.
I also incorperated a window on the kestrel box. It can open and close VIA a sliding piece of that plastic sheeting. Inside the sheeting there is plastic "fencing". I decided to do this after seeing a "forest hawk" hawk box with a window. I like the idea becuase i figure if i get a kestrel and want to bring it into my dorm, and become more socialized in college, i can open the window instead of having it perched. This should be safer than just having a bird perched in my dorm, and also keep me out of trouble
As always, comments/suggestions are welcome

Hey kenbro,
I fly SPADS too and am planning on making my GH out of coro also. Do your friends visit the SPAD forum? I bet I'ver heard of them if they do. Happy flying.
so THAT'S a giant hood...lol. I had the impression it was like a really loose-fitting hood. *d'oh* I'm looking for a new one at the moment, raptorbox makes good ones out of plastic, good for cleaning. You can sit on them too. My current one isn't deep enough. The trick is to make it as narrow as possible and as deep as possible. If the bird can flap, her feathers will break. But Dusk's box isn't deep enpough, and 6 primaries broke last year. Now she's moulted out 4 and is banned from the box lol. We are thinking of getting new boxes, with wire fronts that the birds can see out of. The good thing about this is it's easier to keep cool. Also you can see if the bird is okay. The bad thing is that other people can see inside, so we need to get covers for them. I'm not going to get one for Dusk though: they're big, heavy and expensive, and she doesn't travel very often.
