Nope, I don't like the coroplast hoods. I know there is a pattern somewhere on the net but I don't know what the site is.

Take a look. I'm having two of these made, with a few little embellishments of my own. They should last a lifetime which, IMHO makes them cheaper. I used a cardboard box last year. It did the job but i plan on traveling more this year, so i want something more substantial.
You can make a giant hood out of a portable dog kennel. Take the kennel and stick a piece of PVC for a perch in the middle, (cover with your fav. material), cover the grid part with towels (On the sides) and put a wooden board in the front grid. Blocks out all the light, good ventilation and easy to make.
I like to be able to use my giant hood as a chair, table and perch for the bird. A coroplast hood doesn't fit any of these. I have a glove hook on the side, nice brass fittings and hinges, an eyelet for the leash to tie to, a clip mounted up high on the inside back for the paper to be hung from for mute catching. I have a baffle on the top with a mini computer fan mounted there that plugs into the 12v outlet in my truck to provide air circulation. Last but not least, I have a colapseable handle on the top. Now.....try to do these things with a coroplast hood. ;D

You went all out huh? Im impressed! Have any pics, i'd like to feature it as the "extreme hawk box" LOL
Mine actually broke recently, becuase someone [me *cough*cough*] left it out in the rain, then forgot about it and i found one of my goats standing on the remains of it the other day Oh well it was time for a new one anyway....

I have four different ones. I'll see if I can get some pics. On the other picture board you can see two of them. The one I use a majority of the time was made for me by Gary Brewer. I just made a few small mods and presto.... ;D

I'm making my kestel box out of pressboard (same stuff as pegboard but without the holes). So far it's not looking too bad. I gotta go out today and get the rest of the hardware so I can finish it.
btw - I'm thinking I'd like to find some sort of digi (or regular if necessary) thermometer I can mount on the outside of the box to monitor the temp inside. I've been checking the auto parts stores and haven't found what I like there. And the ones at the petstores are all designed for either mounting on glass or the inside. Anybody have any ideas/opinions?
Minca, check with your aquarium store. Some of the thermometers they use have probes that go inside the tank, with a read out disc that attaches to the outside of the tank. That might work.
I bought the perfect thermometer at Radio Shack it has a probe that you can mount inside the hood with a digital display that can be stuck on the outside. I beleive it cost about $20....This was several years ago though.
