I am stating this thread on my Mini dachshund Pheby, she was bred by Joby.I started her training by placing san juan rabbits in my fenced in back yard and letting her chase them around, she is a very aggresive little dog she would run them down and hold them at 10 weeks and they were alot bigger then her. Today I took her on her daily jaunt threw some bunny fields I went to a hillside that is covered in honey suckle and brush piles and sat down to let Pheby exsplore the terrain and work her nose, she did great today and started weaving in and out the brush she ended up near a blow downed tree that was full of holes she stated sniffing the entrances to the holes so I praised her for it and sure enough she went down one and out of sight, she then appeared out of another hole that was connected to the one she went down I was soo pleased. She is turning out great, good job Joby ;D.

What a great looking little girl!! She definitely has her Pappa's tenaciousness (sp?) and her Momma's good looks. It's great to hear that she's already going down holes too. They don't always start out doing that right away, so you're training is definitely going to be a big help. How is that San Juan colony coming?
Today was her best day yet. One of tame rabbits escaped today up at the barn, which is full of groundhog holes and other hidey spots for a rabbit to hide in, well I called Mrs Pheby over and had her help me search for the last rabbit, she found the rabbit shortly after hiding under some boards soo out popped the rabbit and it took off almost like a wild rabbit to my surprise Pheby went after it barking the whole time it was great she trailed it down a groundhog hole and flushed it again this went on for 10 minutes untill she bayed the rabbit up under the barn floor and I REACHED in and pulled it out with Pheby attached to its butt! Again Joe I Love this puppy!
Pheby is coming along great now she is real gamey and is really working the briers good. She gets vocal when the rabbit trail gets hot which I really like. I am taking her out this week to do some gun hunting since I am out a bird for now. She really has turned into a nice dog, and Joby I must say I am pleased.
Good to hear RT. I hear that her little brother is doing great as well. If they continue to prgress this well, I might just do a similar breeding next year.
Right now Bayli will be put up for a couple of weeks as she sliced the pad on one of her paws wide open. Don't know what happened, but we got it stitched up and she's on preventitive antibiotics for the next two weeks. So, it'll probably just be me, the two tercels and Cobie for a bit. Kinda like a bachelor parties, as we're all looking for just one thing playboy BUNNIES!!!
