OK Lee, First Pic is Caz sniffing around the new weathering area.
Second Pic is Chance trying to grab Caz's tail
Third Pic is the girls with momma in the bushes, Pheby is out front sniffing the rock
Fourth Pic AND Fifth Pic are of Pheby with her new best friend, some twine
Sixth Pic is a showdown between CAZ on the left and Pheby on the right. Caz loves to bully his sisters, but Pheby usually gives it back to him pretty hard. She actually knocked him over and had him squealing the other night after he grabbed her tail and bit down hard.
Dave, I know what you mean about the waiting. But Caz is doing well and will be here for you when we hook up next weekend! He'll just have to spend another week pestering his sisters. ;D -Joe
Yeah Cjinx, I think I can definitively say that they're all going to get Bayli's coat type, which is Belgian. She's 3/4 Belgian stock and Cobie is 1/2 Belgian. He has the fluffy American coat type that your dog probably has. It is actually a little bit thicker than the Belgian stuff, but it also catches more burrs than the slicker Belgian coat type does. I was hoping that they all would get their momma's coat type and so far it looks like it's coming true. -Joe
Interesting. I hadn't heard of the different coat types although I know that my Pheby's coat is the thicker, wavey type, while Rusty's is smooth and longer. It's to early to tell what the new pups are going to be like. They're just starting to wean. They've excaped the whelping box are now in the indoor kennel.

Well, little Pheby is now in her new home down Virginia way with our very own RT, Lee Shelton. I met Lee halfway across PA with a load of San Juan bunnies and a bunny killer named Pheby. A fellow falconer who was getting a bird from Lee rode with me. We met up in Somerset PA and I got a chance to meet one quality individual in Lee. Had a good although short meeting with him before we had to head back to Ohio. Pheby's got a new daddy and she's set to show them damn wascally VA wabbits how a mini-doxie conducts business!!!
Tomorrow morning our own Rdtle, David, and his girlfriend will be coming up from KY to pick up Caz and to do some hunting. Caz has been chasing his little San Juan friend pretty hard in the back yard this past week so I'm pretty sure he's ready to teach them Louisville bunny's a little something as well.
Dave and his girlfriend came up from KY for Caz yesterday and I couldn't be more pleased with the homes that the puppies are going to. Dave and his girl were just real quality people and I had a great time hanging out with them. We got a chance to hit the fields with Ms. GRIM and Bayli out for a quick but successful hunt. I've transitioned Chance over to Bayli's cage for now so she'll have some company since her brother and sister are now gone. I'll tell you one thing, we're going to miss the kids, but it does my heart good to know that they're going to such quality, caring hunting homes.
Joe I just wanted to say thanks again for the beautiful little dog. Pheby is curled up on my lap right now living up the good life, she is a tired from chasing those San Juans around today. I put her in a fenced in area with a adult buck rabbit and she chased him all over the place before she pinned him behind the air conditioner unit, she was very aggresive towards that rabbit which was twice her size I might add so I am very pleased so far with her, I know she is going to turn out to be a rabbit slayer. Thanks again Joe for the great puppy.
Just a reminder. I have three pups ready to go. 10 weeks old today. ACA registered with 1st shots. 2-females @ $400.00 1-male @ $350.00 Prefer pickup only. Willing to negotiate other options. PM me if interested or if you have questions. Thanks
Your teckels are wonderful, so cute, hard to believe they will be hunting and not cuddling on the sofa! lol I will be looking for a teckel in about a year, or maybe next spring. I'm finding it pretty difficult to find good breeders where I am, so far I would have to travel to Manitoba to find one that suits me! What should I look for precisely? I've read that the miniature is better than the standard cause they can enter cover more easily, is that true? Most breeders here breed only standard dogs, no miniatures. I will be looking for long-haired dachshunds for the weather here can be quite cold for a shorthaired and I don't like the wirehaired ones... So is it true that dogs under 10 pounds are better suited to falconry or I could extend my research on the standard dachshunds as well? Thanks... And I wish I could take one of yours!
Everything I hold in my hands today could be only a memory tomorrow. Carpe Diem.

The minis (8-12 lbs.) are good if you don't mind letting them go to ground. I personally don't want to have to dig my dog out of a hole. Therefore I have tweeners. (12-16 lbs.) Standards are the next size larger. I'm sure they would be fine hunters. Obviously, as the dog gets bigger, the harder it is to go where the rabbits go. I agree with your wanting the longhaired. I wouldn't worry to much about buying from proven hunting stock, great if you can, but I believe all hound breeds will hunt if given the opportunity and encouragement. Remember, they where originally breed to hunt, not look pretty at a show. O and yes, my dogs cuddle on the sofa when they're not hunting.
