My female Pointer started having her 2nd litter of puppies this morning at 5 am. The 1st litter she had 8 pretty small puppies. So far she has 2 puppies this litter, but, they are pretty good sized and all white.
Pointers don't usually go through the brush or thick vines. They stand back a couple of feet and point to where the bird is. Then you flush the bird up and either shoot it or let your bird catch it. My female has only had 3 so far and its been 5 hours.
They are good brush dogs generally but that Himalayan Blackberry stuff is tough brush to push through. What are you hunting? If the brush isn’t too wide then he won’t go in, he’ll point form the outside and you can flush with rocks or sticks. (You can train them to point at petty good distances) But if you have a lot of “ground pounders” – birds that rather run then fly, or expansive cover you’ll have some problems.
Personally I don’t send my dog into thickets like those blackberries (nor do I recommend it). It’s hard on the dog and they just get cut up on their pads, faces, testicles and tails. It’s a bloody mess.
My female ended up having only 3 large puppies. These puppies must be on steroids or something because they are twice the size she had the last time. I had a bunch of guys who wanted females, but, she only had one. No money to be made on this litter.
