Was wondering about how a bull terrier would do for hawking. Maybe going after Rabbits and Squirrels? Let me know... I have always liked these dogs, and this could be the excuse for getting one!
Not very good at all. It was bred for fighting or bull baiting. They can be aggressive and uncontrollable and that doesn't mix with falconry. I would strongly recommend that you forget about Bull terriers. There are plenty of other breeds to chose from if you want a dog for falconry.-Zach

I used to think i knew some things. But i'm not so sure anymore.
I have heard that the fight has really been breed out of them, and now they are more of a family dog (though they will still fight with other dogs).
Anyways, I thought the terrier in them might come out if presented with hunting. I believe the breeding was between an English Terrier and Bulldog to get the Bull Terrier... Anyways, oh well. I still want one of these dogs, now I just wont be able to justify it
Tiercel78 I think you are getting bull terriers mixed up with pit bull terriers. Bull Terriers are the Target Dogs, with the funky looking head (I like them though )
Bull Terriers are really sweet dogs, no agression in them really.
About the lineage, it was an english terrier, bull dog and dalmation.
But, I would agree with you tiercel, definatly NOT a hawking dog. lol. They aren't very smart... Their build definatly wouldnt suit for hunting either. Try getting that thick curved nose down a squirrel hole...

Yeah, Your right I was thinking about the wrong dog. But like you said not a good falconery dog either. Plus, aren't those dogs (bull terriers) real expensive? My wife is a Vet tech and she says that they run in the 2000.00 range.-Zach

Any breed of dog can be expensive, it is just a matter of who you get them from. But yes the bull terriers will probably run you somewhere upwards of $1,500. Then from there you will spend couple thousand on vet bills because they have bad bad skin problems, eye problems, ear trouble, and they are just generally...a regular vet seeing dog.
