ok folks i have a question, i have a boardcollie mix (lab i believe). i have been told that because of the collie he will be difficult to train as a dog for flushing in the fields because they are ''hearding'' dogs. However he has never been exposed to such and does not display an interest or behavior in wanting to heard the other dogs or even the cats.
He is VERY smart and I believe it can be done. But does anyone have a thought on this?
Also I am trying to locate someone in my area (sonoma county, CA) that trains hunting dogs but have had little luck. Any suggestions on where to look?
You have been told correct. Your dog may never of had any training what so ever but herding is what he was bred to do and because it is in his bloodline he will do so naturally.
opphh, well looks like my son gets to be the doggie then cause if i bring home another dog my mom is going to kill me. But I will continue to work with the one i have and see how it goes. I am not known for giving up all that easily. Thanks for the input
