Absolutely!! Many falconers use jack Russels for squirrel hawking as they are excellent treeing dogs.

I think i'm the only person in the state if Mo. that hawks with anything other than a Jack! My sponsor's JR is quite the rabbit and sqirrel dog. At any given meet you'll see a dozen or so JRs. Oakes book on rabbit hawker's dogs has a good chapter about them. They aren't good with little kids as a rule, but they are supposed to be tenacious hunters.
i bought a jack russell and its the best dog ive ever owned he is a great hunting dog and his personality is awesome. skippy would be perfect if it wasnt for the fact my hawk tries to eat him every chance she gets.
i have a two jr x's they are crossed with bull terrier they make grand little dogs full of energy full of guts they will hunt everything from rats to wildboar.

My family used to own a jack russel as a "family pet", since I got a Harris hawk I have trained a jack puppy, she is 9 months old now and will flush, or hunt anything u ask her2!althought she can't out run things, she great at catching things in reeds and water and flushing for my hawk. They make a great team.
I grew up in Herkimer (a small town close to Utica) and still have family up there. We used to spend our summers at Eagle Bay (near Old Forge) in the Adirondacks.
