Hey there! This is my first post. I’ve passed the written test, got my news inspection passed yesterday and submitted the application materials today. Now I’m finishing up the equipment I’ll need for my kestrel. I’ve built a hawk box following Matt Mullenix’s dimensions. The questions my sponsor and I have is do we need to tether the kestrel inside the box and if so, what’s the best way of doing that? I’ll see if I can attach a pic of the box, not sure how to do that on this forum yet. Thanks in advance for any help!

The simplest way is to put the bird in the box, then shut the door on the leash and let it hang. This method can also be dangerous, e.g., stepping on the leash, leash pulled into the box, a tangled bird from the leash shut in the door at a long length within. So you could also just drill a hole and screw in an eyelet on the outside of the box to tie the leash there. Good luck
