Hello everyone,
I am new and very interested in Falconry. Delaware seems to be a very lonely state. Anyone here from Delaware as well? I'm still doing a lot of research on this but any help the veterans can provide will be most appreciated.
I am a Maryland resident. Our family has a home in Delaware. I tried to do a little research to investigate the possibility of hunting in Delaware. It is indeed a lonely state. There are very few falconers in the state from what I was able to find. The laws are also pretty restrictive when it comes to trapping birds. I would try reaching out to Delaware DNR to see if they have a list of sponsors. I'm pretty sure that if you don't mind taking a drive to Maryland or Pennsylvania you would be able to find someone to show you some things. However, I do not know if Delaware or those states would allow for someone outside of the state to sponsor you. That question would be best solicited to your DNR agency. There are people surrounding you to impart a little wisdom, for sure.
The season is winding down, if not basically done. You might have to hope to catch the occasional get together in the off season to really catch up with individuals. This is a good time to try and seek out a sponsor and start getting prepared for next season, if you indeed want to pursue falconry.
Hope this little bit of knowledge helps. Feel free to PM me if you have more questions, as of yet I have not heard of any future planned meet ups but that could change at any moment.
